Portraits of asylum-seekers shortly after crossing the US-Mexico border in California. They come from all over the world: China, Russia, Colombia, Brazil, Turkey, Georgia, Venezuela, India, Kazakhstan, Guatemala, Peru. Some have had arduous journeys through many countries over many months to reach the border, others have had a simple trip directly to Mexico. All have engaged the services of coyotes (smugglers) to get them across to the US.
